Greaves Cotton is an engineering company which deals with the manufacture and marketing of petrol, diesel engines, generators and pumps. Its electric vehicle division, Ampere Vehicles, has launched its FAME-II-compliant electric scooter, the Ampere Zeal. It is priced at Rs 66,950, ex-showroom Bengaluru, which is including the Rs 18,000 FAME II subsidy.
The Zeal gets a 60V, 30Ah lithium-ion battery linked to a 1200W BLDC hub motor. This helps the scooter reach a claimed top speed of 55kmph. Its claimed range stands at 75km and the battery takes a full 5.5 hours to charge. The charging time is a bit on the higher side, especially considering it’s a lithium-ion battery.
Underpinnings include telescopic forks up front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. This electric scooter comes to a halt using drum brakes on both ends with combined braking system. Other notable features include an apron-mounted storage compartment, under-seat storage, anti-theft alarm and an LED headlight.
At present, there are four scooters that are compliant with FAME II: Okinawa i-Praise, Okinawa Ridge+, Ather 450 and the latest in the line: the Ampere Zeal.
