Now that the government has reduced GST on electric vehicles from 12 per cent to 5 per cent, manufacturers are now passing on the benefits to their customers. First, we saw Ather Energy reduce the price of its electric scooters. And now, Ampere has slashed the prices of offerings as well.
Ampere’s flagship scooter, Zeal, has received a price drop of Rs 5,000. It now costs Rs 67,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). While the Zeal has witnessed the biggest price drop, the prices of the other models have been dropped by Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,500.
With the reduction of GST, many EVs have become comparatively more affordable than before. And companies are even expanding their footprint across the nation as well as building the necessary charging infrastructure to lure as many customers as possible. Just last month, president of Greaves Cotton Vijay Kumar said that it is planning to set up 5,000 charging outlets across India. Out of this, 100 will be installed in the next few months.
