Should the Suzuki Burgman Street be worried?
Earlier this week, we brought you the unfortunate news about the launch of Aprilia’s upcoming SXR 125 maxi-scooter being delayed. To know exactly when it will arrive, you can head here. But as and when it does get here, this is what you can expect:
Familiar Firepower
The engine powering the maxi-scooter won’t be an all-new unit. Rather, it’ll be one that we’re quite familiar with: the same single-cylinder 124.7cc unit seen on the SR 125 and Storm 125, albeit in BS6-compliant form. This means we can expect output similar to the 9.65PS and 9.9Nm seen on those scooters.
Revised Underpinnings
While the SR 125, thanks to its sporty intentions, rolls on big-by-scooter-standards 14-inch wheels, the SXR is more inclined towards comfort and practicality. For this reason, the 14-inchers have been swapped out for 12-inch units, thus freeing up more underseat storage. Suspension will be handled by a telescopic fork and monoshock, and the SXR will receive a front disc brake at least as an option.
Italian Icon
But it’s not going to be the engine or the wheels that’ll blow you away when this scooter arrives. It’ll be the drop-dead gorgeous looks. Even though all these pictures are representative images of the larger SXR 160, we expect the 125 to feature near identical styling. The three-piece RSV-style headlight setup, the BIG front screen and wraparound apron make this a decidedly European-looking scooter with a lot of presence. The red colour scheme and sporty graphics also do their part in injecting some flair. We think these SXR models could be two of the best-looking scooters on the market once launched.
Future Features
It’s not just an external thing, though. Even the features on the SXR are going to be quite swanky. Chief among these will be the fully-digital instrumentation which will also have Bluetooth functionality, allowing you to hook up your mobile phone and control music, phone calls and perhaps even get turn-by-turn navigation. The SXR will also get fancy LED lighting and an external fuel-filler.
When & How Much?
Ah, yes. The big questions about when the SXR 125 will arrive and how much it’ll cost. Well, the little maxi-scooter was supposed to arrive along with its bigger cousin, the SXR 160, around August this year. Obviously the whole COVID-19 situation has thrown a spanner in the works, so to find out the revised launch timeline and expected pricing, click here.
