Here are all the details about Aprilia’s newly-unveiled maxi-style scooter!
Aprilia brightened up an otherwise dull Auto Expo 2020 by unveiling the hot new SXR160 maxi-style scooter. Wondering what it is all about? You’ve come to the right place!
Expected price, bookings and delivery details:
Aprilia has announced that the bookings for the SXR160 will commence from August 2020. The scooter is expected to be priced around Rs 15,000 more than the Aprilia SR160 BS6, which retails at Rs 1.03 lakh (ex-showroom Hyderabad). The scooter is planned to be launched in mid-2020 and deliveries are likely to commence from the third quarter of this year. There are no natural rivals to the SXR160 but you do have the option to go for the Suzuki Burgman maxi-style scooter in the 125cc segment.
Loaded with features:
The Aprilia SXR160 comes with a twin-LED headlamp with DRLs. The tail lamp and the indicators are LEDs as well. There’s a large LCD instrument cluster which shows the regular trove of information and more importantly, it also gets a mileage indicator. This should help you plan better when it comes to refuelling. For better utility, there’s an apron-mounted hook and a split apron storage compartment, which also houses a USB charging port. There’s even a mode button, presumably to change the instrument cluster display. For the tech-savvy among you, smartphone connectivity and a mobile phone dock will be available as accessories.
Designed specifically for India:
The Aprilia SXR160 maxi-style scooter has been designed specifically for the Indian market. Its muscular-looking apron section complements the sleek tail panels pretty well. However, the flat footboard doesn’t really go well with the scooter’s overall design language. We’d have loved if Aprilia had offered a raised floorboard which is commonly found in typical maxi scooters.
Shares motor with the Aprilia SR160 BS6:
Aprilia has used the same motor as the SR160 BS6 in its newly-unveiled maxi-style scooter. This 160cc fuel-injected motor makes 11PS at 7600rpm and 11.6Nm at 6000rpm. It is likely that the Aprilia SXR160 will also have the same state of tune. That said, we wouldn’t be surprised if Aprilia tweaked the motor to suit the character of the scooter.
Packs slightly different underpinnings:
The Aprilia SXR160 employs a telescopic front fork and a single shock absorber at the rear. It comes to a halt using a disc brake up front and a drum brake at the rear. A single-channel ABS setup should help the brand keep the costs under control, while at the same time, comply with the latest safety norms for two-wheelers in the country.
