The test bike featured a previously unseen white colour scheme
- The upcoming bike will be powered by the same 660cc parallel-twin engine as the RS 660.
- An official global launch is expected in mid-2021.
- Both the RS 660 and Tuono 660 will come to India as CBUs.
The middleweight naked segment is already awash with excellent motorcycles ranging from the KTM 890 Duke and the Triumph Street Triple to the Yamaha MT-09. Joining the party next year will be Aprilia with its debuting Tuono 660 which has just been spotted testing on Italian roads for the first time.
The test mule is uncamouflaged and complete with lights and mirrors, so the bike seems very close to being production-ready. It also wears a white colour scheme that hasn’t been seen in any Aprilia press images so far. The LED DRLs up front look gorgeous and the little Tuono has a pretty aggressive face.
It will share its 660cc parallel-twin motor with the recently launched RS 660 sports bike, but while the RS gets the full-fat 101PS state of tune, the Tuono will churn out 95PS. The drop in peak output indicates Aprilia has focused on creating more usable power delivery with better response at lower rpms.
The good news is both the RS 660 and the Tuono 660 will come to the Indian market next year. The bad news is like most big Aprilias, they will arrive as CBUs, so be prepared for hefty price tags. The Tuono should set you back by around Rs 12 lakh and the RS by a cool Rs 13 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom).
