The Artem M9 will reportedly be the world's first two-wheeler to feature Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.
Artem Energy Future Limited, a home-grown electric vehicle technology company, has announced the M9, claiming it to be the world’s safest electric scooter. The M9 will feature ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) which was seen only in luxury cars till now. The M9 will also feature several other segment firsts like a top speed of 90kmph, 0-50kmph in 6 seconds and a 100km run per charge. It can be charged by an onboard fast charger, alongside battery swapping.
The founders of Artem Energy Future said that while policies continue to strengthen four-wheeler safety, two-wheeler safety is still highly neglected in India. The founders claim that the upcoming regulation to mandate ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and CBS (Combined Braking System) on two-wheelers is too little and too late. Last year there were nearly 40,000 two-wheeler casualties in India, which is an alarming number. This is what inspired the founders to develop two-wheelers equipped with advanced safety features.
Powered by the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), the M9 will send collision alerts while working on preventing a collision. With the help of cameras and radars the M9 will ensure 360-degree awareness up to 100m radius. The system will assess different conditions, based on which it will send warnings to the rider through a smart helmet as well as through vibration feedback on the handlebars.
Adding to the safety are the emergency brakes which can be automatically and safely activated using Artem’s proprietary “EDB” (Electro-Dynamic Braking) technology, which facilitates safer stops by reversing the traction force.
Despite all these advanced safety features, if you do meet with an accident riding the M9, the scooter automatically sends a text message alert to five predetermined In-case of Emergency (ICE) numbers. That's not it, the M9 will also inform a centralized call centre and the local emergency response authority.
Artem has not revealed much about the motor that will power this super safe scooter, neither have they commented on the production timeline. However, one thing is for sure: the M9 will hit the Indian two-wheeler market with a hefty price tag, owing to the advanced technology and safety features incorporated in it.
