Bajaj has finally launched the hotly anticipated Chetak in India after a gruelling wait of almost three months. The scooter is available in two variants: Urbane and Premium, priced at Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.15 lakh respectively which includes FAME-II subsidy. Bajaj says customers can visit www.chetak.com, which will be a one-stop shop for everything Chetak.
You can book the Chetak online for a token amount of Rs 2,000. Online bookings will commence on January 15 at 12 pm. For the initial phase, test rides will be conducted only via select KTM dealerships in Pune and Bengaluru. Deliveries, on the other hand, will begin from the end of February 2020. With time, all KTM dealers across India will have Chetaks as part of their portfolio.
Thankfully, being electric, the Chetak is low on maintenance, which means you won’t have to run to the service centre every now and then. The service interval is set at 12,000km or one year (whichever is earlier). The first service though will be carried out at 1,000km via select KTM dealerships. It also comes with an overall warranty of 3 years or 50,000km (whichever is first), inclusive of the lithium-ion battery.
The Chetak is powered by a Bosch-developed BLDC motor, capable of producing 3.8kW of continuous power, 4.08kW of peak power, and 16Nm of torque. A non-removable IP67-rated 60.3Ah lithium-ion battery powers the electric motor and offers a claimed range of 95km in Eco mode and 85km in Sport mode. For added convenience, it even gets a reverse gear.
According to Bajaj, the Chetak takes 5 hours for a full charge, and an hour to reach 25 per cent via a conventional household socket. An 80 per cent charge is achieved in 3.5 hours. You also get a home charger for free along with the Premium variant.
