[Update: Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter Launched In India]
- The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter was unveiled in October 2019.
- It comes with a claimed range of 95km in Eco mode.
- Bajaj says the battery life is pegged at 70,000km.
Bajaj has sent out an invite for a media meet on the Chetak electric scooter on January 14, hinting at its launch. The Pune-based auto major had unveiled the scooter in October 2019, and it is likely to command a price tag of around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom Pune).
Bajaj had earlier mentioned that the scooter will come with a 3-year/50,000km warranty and a battery life of 70,000km. The brand had also revealed that the scooter will offer a claimed range of 95km in Eco mode and 85km in Sport mode. The scooter is powered by a 4kW Bosch BLDC motor and an IP67-rated lithium-ion battery pack. For better durability and to appeal to its target customers, the scooter also comes with an all-metal bodywork.
Since it’s an electric scooter, there are fewer moving parts and thanks to this, it will get a generous service interval of 15,000km. Unfortunately, there is no fast-charging option as it tends to degrade the battery cells quickly. That said, Bajaj will offer a home charging station at a nominal price. More details about the scooter’s specifications are expected to be announced at the event.

In terms of rivals, it will go head-to-head against the Ather 450, which retails at Rs 1.13 lakh (on-road Bengaluru). Interestingly, Ather has also announced a new variant of its e-scooter, details of which can be found here.
