Bajaj Auto is going to capture the two wheeler market slowly and silently. As per industry reports Bajaj Auto's market share jumped by 9 per cent in June 2010 as against the sales of the same period of last year. Bajaj's market share increased to 34 percent in June while in April it was only 25 percent, on the other hand leading two-wheeler company Hero Honda's share fell down from 56 percent to 47 percent during the same period. Other two wheeler companies like TVS Motors and HMSI have retained their share. Bajaj launched its Discover model in 2004 and extended to the 100cc segment last year. The company claimed that with sales of 1,14,000 bikes in June it became the second largest selling model in India. It overtook Hero Honda passion's 106,000 units sales per month but still far behind from market leader Splendor 160,000 unit sales in the same period. S. Sridhar, CEO, Bajaj Auto, (two wheeler) told that if the company follows the same strategy, it will overtake Spelonder in next three to six months. He also added that company is able to produce 170,000 unit of Discover. It's recently launched 150cc Discover that is expected to hit 35,000 unit sales per month. In past five years, the jump in sales up to 98 percent shows that Bajaj Auto' sales is going up. This is partly due to a low base effect. Bajaj's domestic sales had slipped to 110,000 units a month last year as consumer financing dried up during the down turn but rival Hero Honda continued to do well, as consumers in rural areas bought in cash.
