The upcoming smaller-capacity Dominar is likely to be priced at around Rs 1.5 lakh
[UPDATE: Bajaj Dominar 250 Launched; Rs 30,000 Cheaper Than Bajaj Dominar 400!]
- It will be powered by the same 250cc motor as seen on the KTM 250 Duke and the Husqvarna twins.
- The Dominar 250 will come equipped with a box-section swingarm.
- It might get the same features as the Dominar 400.
We kind of knew Bajaj was working on the Dominar 250. Now though, we have received an official invite from Bajaj for its first ride hinting that the bike maker might launch the smaller-capacity Dominar around the same time. The motorcycle was spotted a few months back, when we got a first look at what the motorcycle will look like.
The upcoming Dominar 250 is likely to share its design cues with its bigger sibling, the Dominar 400. In fact, we expect Bajaj to equip it with the same features as well. So, expect the smaller Dominar to come with a digital instrument console and a small digital display on the fuel tank and LED lights.
Bajaj isn’t developing an all-new engine for the new Dominar 250. The Pune-based bike maker will use a tuned version of the same 250cc mill that’s seen on the KTM 250 Duke and the Husqvarna 250s. We believe this 248.76cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled BS6-compliant motor will have similar power and torque figures as the KTM and the Husqvarna twins. This motor, in its current state of tune, churns out 30PS at 9000rpm and 24Nm at 7500rpm.
What’s interesting is that Bajaj is likely to keep the Dominar 250’s underpinnings similar to the Dominar 400. So it will get the same USD fork and monoshock as seen on the 400cc variant. We believe Bajaj might tune the suspension settings to some extent to suit the new 250cc motor. However, we can confirm this only once we ride the motorcycle. So stay tuned for that! Braking hardware will consist of disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS as standard fitment. The major difference, however, will be the swingarm. While the Dominar 400 gets a cast unit, the smaller Dominar 250 gets a box-section.
Bajaj hasn’t revealed the prices yet, but we expect the Dominar 250 to be priced at around Rs 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom). With this, Bajaj is giving customers three options of 250cc motorcycles. If they want something affordable with a high value for money, the Dominar 250 will be the right option. But if they are looking for premium or sporty, they could consider the Husqvarna twins and the KTM 250 Duke.
