Bajaj Freedom 125: What We Know About The Bajaj CNG Bike

The all-new Bajaj Freedom 125 is all set to launch on July 5, 2024, as the ‘World’s first-ever CNG bike’. The bike has been spotted multiple times during its testing phase. Bajaj has also recently released a few teasers, revealing exciting information about the bike’s design, body panels, instrument console, switchgear and more.

Bajaj Freedom 125: Important Things To Know

The upcoming Bajaj CNG bike will be called the ‘Bajaj Freedom 125’, the name was trademarked by the manufacturer earlier this year. The bike comes with two fuel tanks: a primary CNG tank, and a small petrol tank, that will be used when the CNG tank gets empty. The Freedom 125 is likely to come in two variants: a standard and a rugged version.

Bajaj Freedom 125: What We Know About The Bajaj CNG Bike

The Bajaj Freedom 125 has a basic commuter-like design and features boxy body panels. It may get a blue fuel tank and front fender. The CNG bike comes with an LED headlight with DRLs (daytime running lights) and LED indicators, a braced handlebar, and simple-looking rear-view mirrors. The bike may also get optional knuckle guards. The boxy tank-extension with a brushed metallic finish also features a Bajaj Freedom emblem.

The Freedom 125 has a long single-piece seat that partially overlaps the fuel tank, whereas the CNG tank is placed below the seat. At the rear, it gets a sleek tail section and a slim single-piece grab rail. It has a stubby upswept exhaust, a tyre hugger, and a saree guard on the left.

The Bajaj Freedom 125 will be powered by a 125cc, single-cylinder CNG/petrol-powered engine. However, CNG is not as energy-dense as compared to petrol, hence, the CNG bike is expected to produce power similar to that of a 100-110cc petrol-powered bike. Though the bike's exact mileage is unknown, we believe it will offer approximately 70km per kg of CNG. Additionally, since CNG is much cheaper than petrol, it is expected that the Freedom 125 will result in reduced running costs.

The Freedom 125 features a digital instrument cluster with a neutral gear indicator and a low CNG fuel level alert on top. It also gets a blue button on the left side, allowing the rider to switch between CNG and petrol. Below this button is the indicator switch, and between these is a circular switch, which is most likely for the horn.

The upcoming Bajaj Freedom 125 is equipped with a telescopic fork with fork gaiters and a monoshock. It gets drum brakes on both ends but a front disc brake would be optional. It comes with CBS (combined braking system) as standard.

Bajaj Freedom 125 Price & Rivals:

Bajaj usually prices its bikes aggressively in the market to compete with the segment leaders and we can see the same in Bajaj’s recent launches including the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z and Bajaj Pulsar N250. Therefore, we think that the Bajaj Freedom 125 could be launched somewhere around the Rs 80,000 (ex-showroom).

The Freedom 125 is one of its kind and doesn’t get any direct rival. However, it will compete with the other 100-110cc commuter bikes including the Hero Splendor Plus, TVS Radeon, Honda Shine 100, and Bajaj Platina 110.
