The legendary Pulsar will no longer breathe via a carburettor
- The Bajaj Pulsar 220F BS6 has started arriving at dealerships.
- There are no mechanical changes to report.
- Prices have gone up by Rs 8,960.
The most iconic Pulsar of all time, the Bajaj Pulsar 220F, has made the transition to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. This is the third Pulsar after the Bajaj Pulsar NS200 BS6 and the Bajaj Pulsar 150 Twin Disc BS6 to receive the new updates. The new Pulsar 220F BS6 is now priced at Rs 1,16,262 (ex-showroom Pune), which is a premium of Rs 8,960 when compared to its BS4 predecessor.
Visually, there are no changes to report on the Pulsar 220. The motorcycle retains its half-fairing with the vertically-stacked dual projector headlights. The rest of the bike looks the same with the traditional Pulsar styling carrying forth into the BS6 era.
The 220’s motor will once again be fuel-injected. The original Pulsar 220 did come with a fuel injector unit, which was soon changed to a carbureted motor. The switch to fuel injection should ensure the Pulsar 220 stays future proof in light of the upcoming BS6 emission norms. Expect a marginal drop in performance of the motor.
Mechanically, Bajaj doesn’t seem to have changed much on the Pulsar 220. It will ply the same telescopic fork and preload-adjustable twin shocks as before with disc brakes at both ends. Single-channel ABS will continue to come as standard.
At the new price point, the Pulsar 220F BS6 is Rs 14,000 dearer than the Hero Xtreme 200 S. The latter is yet to receive its BS6 update but we guess it will not be priced over the Pulsar.
