The biggest Pulsar ever has quite a few surprises in store for us
Bajaj has finally launched the Pulsar NS400Z in India at Rs 1,85,000 (ex-showroom). The biggest Pulsar shares the same 373cc engine as the Dominar 400 but is Rs 45,815 more affordable.
Bajaj Auto has been dropping a lot of teasers of the upcoming Bajaj Pulsar NS400, and they have revealed quite a bit about the biggest Pulsar bike ever. Now that the bike is set to be launched in a few hours, here’s everything we know about it so far.
Design
The Pulsar NS400 gets a similar design as the bikes in the Pulsar NS lineup, but with a few changes. The first big change is the headlight: it features an LED projector flanked by lightning-shaped DRLs. The rear view mirrors look quite similar to those on the Bajaj Dominar 400, and are likely borrowed from the same. The other thing that stands out when looking at the front section is the inverted fork, with the golden finish and it adds a bit of premiumness to the bike’s look overall.
The fuel tank is muscular, similar to what we have come to associate with the NS series. But tank extensions on the NS400 appear to be a bit more curvy than what we have seen on the Bajaj Pulsar NS200. The tank also features a similar tank pad as the NS200. The NS400 comes with a split seat setup, complemented by a split pillion grab rail. At the rear, the tail section is similar to what we have seen on the NS200 and looks quite sharp.
In terms of colours, the bike will be offered in 4 different colour options: Red, white, grey with red accents and grey with neon yellow accents. Going by the teasers, we expect the red colour to be called ‘Carnage Red’.
Engine And Performance
The Pulsar NS400 will likely feature the same 373.3cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine as the Dominar. The engine produces 40PS and 35Nm, but we expect it to be geared differently to suit the streetfighter character of the NS400. We believe so because the sprocket looks different from what we have seen on the Dominar, so it could be possible that Bajaj has given it a peppier tune.
Underpinnings
The bike is built on a similar perimeter frame as the other bikes in the NS series but the NS400 likely features a larger and more strengthened one to accommodate the higher capacity 373.3cc engine and also to handle the extra weight.
It is suspended on an inverted fork and a gas-charged monoshock. It rolls on 17-inch alloys at the front and rear, with MRF Revz-S tyres. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends with Grimeca callipers. It will come with dual-channel ABS as standard.
Features
The NS400 will likely feature a new colour LCD console with a TFT inset on the right. The console displays speed, fuel level, gear position along with odometer and tripmeter readouts. The console also has smartphone connectivity and related features like turn-by-turn navigation and Call/SMS alerts. The turn-by-turn navigation prompts are displayed on the TFT inset in the right
The console also displays modes and traction control readouts. Judging by the images, we have been able to see 4 modes: Road, Sport, Rain, and Off-Road. But so far we can’t say if the modes will be riding modes that modulate the bike’s performance or ABS modes that alter the intervention when braking.
The left side switch gear on the NS400 has been reworked and it appears to be similar to the switchgear we have seen on the KTM 390 Duke. Other than that, the bike will come with full LED lighting.
Expected Price And Other Details
We expect the Bajaj Pulsar NS400 to come at a price that is around the Rs 2 lakh (ex-showroom) mark, making it considerably more affordable than its rivals in the 300-400cc segment like the KTM 390 Duke, Triumph Speed 400, Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 and TVS Apache RTR 310.
