The company has launched the BK Pilot and BK Raftar range of two-wheeler tyres
Balkrishna Industries Limited, also known as BKT, manufactures off-highway tires used in specialist segments like mining, earthmoving, agriculture and gardening. Now, looking at the phenomenal growth of the two-wheeler tyre market in India, the company has announced its foray into the segment. It has launched two tyre brands, BK Pilot for the front and BK Raftar for the rear, which will be available in different sizes suitable for commuter bikes. The launch ceremony took place in the presence of Bollywood actor and BKT's brand ambassador Sunny Deol.
As per the company, the tires are equipped with features that make a journey safer, faster and more enjoyable. The BK Pilot front tyres are said to come with directional grooves for better steering and wide shoulders to establish firm grip. On the other hand, the BK Raftar rear tyres get an aggressive design, and is made of a high-performance compound to provide good wet grip on the road.
Commenting on the foray, Rajiv Poddar, Joint Managing Director, BKT Tires, said, “The two-wheeler tire industry has reported a compounded annual growth rate of 8.5%. Considering the tremendous potential of the market and its reach in rural India, we plan to introduce our flagship tires at sizes that permeate more than 70% of the total market scope. We also plan to introduce tires in other sizes to provide complete services to our buyers and gather at least a 10% market share of the Indian agricultural transportation market within the next few years.”
With an estimated total market size of 840 lakh tyres per annum and a replacement market size of 360 lakh per annum, BKT sees a good growth in the two-wheeler tyre market in India. The entry of the company in this category has been further aimed to provide continuous business opportunities to existing BKT dealers on a round-the-year basis. Furthermore, foraying into a massive market such as the two-wheeler tyre segment would enhance the brand's visibility in the rural markets across the country.
