BMW bikes to get Hero Motors gearbox

A deal has been signed between Hero Motors which an arm of dollar 4.5 billion Hero Group and German bike major BMW Motorrad. As per the deal Hero Group will supply gearbox to BMW that would be installed in BNW Motorcycles. BMW is to use these purchased gearboxes for its motorcycles for both global and Indian domestic market. The Hero Group has bagged a big deal from international key player.

 


 
Already Hero Motors has its bikes in India with under the badge of Hero Honda which was a Joint ventures between Hero and Japan based Honda Motors. The company is providing value for money bikes in India and has popular bikes such as Hero Honda Splendor, Hero Honda Passion Pro, Hero Honda Karizma, etc.


 
Hero Group also has separate component maker units which produces transmissions, sheet metals and gear boxes. The company supplies these equipment to Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, BMW, Hero Honda and Rotax. The company has two facilities in Ghaziabad and one at Manesar in Delhi-NCR. Meanwhile Halol, Gujarat, and Talegaon, Pune are its another two facilities.
 


Commenting on this big deal, Pankaj Munjal, managing director, Hero Motors said that the company has developed the gearbox themselves including other equipment like engines, transmissions with advanced technology. He said that Hero Motors has achieved the expertise in this segment and now BMW is major buyer of its components like gearboxes. The Europe is the best place for automobile components and the transmission business of the company is growing by over 70 per cent a year from a long time, he said.
 


On the other hand, BMW Motorrad is one of the world's most advanced superbikes provider which reported 12.3 per cent growth in previous fiscal with total sales of 110,000 motorcycles on global stage. In partnership with Hero Motors, the bike maker has entered in Indian market and providing mid-sized single-cylinder bikes in India but now the company has changed its portfolio and providing CBU monsters to Indian customers through its distributors like Deutsche Motoren, New Delhi and Navnit Motors, Mumbai. Presently the company includes Bmw K, Bmw K1300s, Bmw R and Bmw S series bikes in Indian portfolio. All the bikes are available under price of 22 Lakh.
