The BMW R 1300 GS has been launched in India at an introductory price of Rs 20,95,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), Rs 40,000 more than the outgoing R 1250 GS. It is available in five variants: Light White, GS Trophy, Triple Black 1, Triple Black 2, and Option 719 Tramuntana.

The 2024 BMW R 1300 GS comes with a sleeker and more aggressive design, with slim body panels that helped it get 12kg lighter than the R 1250 GS. BMW has skipped the signature asymmetrical headlight for a new X-shaped LED matrix headlight.

The BMW R 1300 GS is powered by a new 1300cc, liquid-cooled, flat-twin engine that churns out an output of 145PS at 7750rpm and 149Nm at 6500rpm (9PS and 6Nm more than the R 1250 GS). It is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch. The R 1300 GS has a claimed top speed of over 200kmph. It comes with a 19-litre fuel tank, which is 1 litre less than the R 1250 GS.

Featurewise, the R 1300 GS gets an all-LED lighting setup and is equipped with a TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity. It gets four riding modes: Eco, Rain, Road and Enduro. The adventure bike also comes with traction control, cruise control and hill-hold assist. Other features include heated grips and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The bike gets a key fob for keyless operation.

The R 1300 GS sits on an all-new metal sheet main frame and die-cast aluminium sub-frame. The suspension setup includes an EVO-Telelever front suspension with 190mm wheel travel and an EVO-Paralever rear suspension with 200mm wheel travel. Braking on the ADV is managed by 310mm twin discs at the front with 4-piston radial callipers and a 285mm single rear disc brake with 2-piston floating calliper, with dual-channel cornering ABS. It rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels, wrapped with 120-section front and 170-section rear tubeless tyres. With an 850mm seat height, the rider sits at the same height as the standard R 1250 GS.

The all-new BMW R 1300 GS competes with the Triumph Tiger 1200, which is Rs 1.76 lakh cheaper, the Ducati Multistrada V4, which is Rs 53,000 more expensive, and the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 Special, which costs Rs 3.69 lakh more.
