With just a few days left for their Indian launch, the BMW G 310 R and GS have started hitting showrooms
With only a few days left for the BMW G 310 R and the BMW G 310 GS to debut (18th of July), the Bavarian twins have been spotted at a dealership in Chennai. However, they will most likely serve as test bikes for potential customers. While pricing of both motorcycles still remains a big mystery, we expect the G 310 R to be priced around the Rs 3 lakh mark while the GS might be Rs 50,000 dearer.
That being said, for that rumoured price you will get the chance to own a motorcycle sporting a BMW badge. Both the G 310 R and the G 310 GS are powered by the same 313cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. This motor churns out 34PS of power and 28Nm of torque, and is paired to a 6-speed transmission.
The G 310 R is designed to be more street-biased, with a longer swingarm and relatively tight wheelbase for the city. On the other hand, the G 310 GS gets a different set of handlebars, long-travel suspension and an ADV design which caters to the up and coming adventure motorcyclist.
Both motorcycles use 41mm inverted front forks and a rear monoshock. But the GS gets 180mm of extra travel at the front, 40mm more than the 310 R. At the rear the GS gets a monoshock suspension with 180mm of travel, 49mm more than the G 310 R. Both motorcycles feature dual-channel ABS as standard, on 300mm front and 240mm rear discs.
Once launched in the country, the BMW G 310 R will rival the KTM 390 Duke and the Benelli TNT 300. The G 310 GS, meanwhile, will go up against the Royal Enfield Himalayan and the Kawasaki Versys-X 300.
