An in-depth analysis of how much you’ll be paying for what essentially could be a rebadged TVS Apache RR 310

(UPDATE: BMW has launched the G 310 RR in India. Full details in our launch story)

Last week, BMW Motorrad India teased a new motorcycle that’s slated to debut on July 15. While details about the two-wheeler are few, the teaser image made it clear that it will be based on the TVS Apache RR 310. This will now be the third BMW-branded motorcycle based on the G 310 platform, which underpins the G 310 R and the G 310 GS. So, how will the Bavarian giant price its first small-capacity supersport?

The upcoming BMW G 310 RR could slot in-between the G 310 R (Rs 2.65 lakh) and G 310 GS (Rs 3.05 lakh) (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). For reference, the standard TVS Apache RR 310 costs Rs 2.65 lakh and the BMW-badged supersport might come at Rs 2.85 lakh. Will the German marque charge a Rs 20,000 premium just for its premium badge?

That’s unlikely to be the case. BMW Motorrad might throw-in the fully adjustable suspension from TVS’ ‘Dynamic’ package and the sporty clip-ons and rear-set footpegs from the ‘Race’ package from the RR 310’s Built-To-Order (BTO) programme as part of the standard equipment.

We can also expect BMW to give its own spin to the RR 310’s design with a few aesthetic changes which could include new headlights inspired by the BMW S 1000 RR. Furthermore, the German marque will drape the G 310 RR in the iconic Red, Blue and Violet tricolour.

The BMW G 310 RR may seem an expensive proposition considering that the TVS Apache RR 310 is available with a cheaper price tag. However, the Indian market will not be the biggest target for the German giant. Instead, the BMW G 310 RR’s main rival would be the KTM RC 390 which features a comprehensive electronic suite, in foreign markets.

But even with the Rs 2.85 lakh price tag, the BMW G 310 RR will be more affordable than the 2022 KTM RC 390 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300.
