BMW Motorrad Brings its World Conquering R 1200 GS to Auto Expo

German Motorcycle manufacturer BMW Motorrad has marked its entry at the largest motoring show in the country by showcasing four models, including the most versatile and imposing motorcycle in its line-up, the R 1200 GS adventure tourer.

The BMW R 1200 GS has proved to be an adventure tourer that is not only imposing in its presence but also dominates the field with all the clever technologies it employs. The bike is powered by an 1170cc,  boxer (flat) twin-cylinder engine with 4-valves per cylinder, and is capable of producing 110bhp of power at 7,750rpm as well as 120Nm of peak torque at 6,000rpm. Its powerful mill is mated to 6-speed transmission. This BMW adventure machine after a wonderful response in the International market, is speculated to be launched in the Indian market by late 2016 or early 2017. The bike is known for its smooth feel and calm poise on the highway. If launched in India, the R 1200 GS would cost somewhere close to Rs. 26 lac.

The bike is built around a Two-Section Frame employing BMW Motorrad Telelever suspension system up front and Cast aluminium single-sided swing arm at the rear side. For braking purposes, the bike has been given 305mm twin-discs at the front and 265mm single disc brake at  the rear. The company is planning to sell its products through its own dealership network along with the current dealers. Presently, Deutsche Motoran and Navnit Motors sell BMW motorcycles in the country.
