BMW Recalls 'Sport' Helmet

BMW Motorrad has announced a recall of a sports helmet as it does not match with the European standards. The company is requesting to the owners to return ‘BMW Sport’ helmets to the authorised BMW Motorrad dealers and take an another product of equal value in exchange. The affected helmets are easily identified by the eight digit reference ‘ID 059241/P’ marked on the chin strip label and it will be exchanged irrespective of its usage as said by the manufacturer.
The helmets having reference ‘ID 059241/P’ are affected only and the rest of the helmet models are unaffected. There are no such safety issues in these helmets, but it does not meet the European safety standards. Therefore, BMW Motorrad has decided to take these helmets off the market.

The German manufacturer says that ‘there is no safety risk to users’ but, the helmets ‘do not fully meet the approval test requirements according to the European standard UNECE [Regulation] 22.05’.
According to the Department for Transport, UK law, Motorcycle helmets should fulfill all the requirements of either UNECE Regulation 22.05 or British Standard BS 6658:1985.
The firm's stated on the recall: 'BMW Motorrad is recalling the motorcycle helmet model "BMW Sport Helmet". Owners are asked to hand their helmet at an authorised BMW Motorrad dealership. Regardless of the age of the helmet, the relevant model can be exchanged for another BMW Motorrad helmet or another BMW Motorrad product of equal value’.
