The German auto giant BMW has unveiled its new naked sport bike BMW S1000R. The bike is based on the company's super sport bike S1000RR. While all the features of the bike remains same, fairing on the bike has been minimised to give a naked feel to the bike.
The bike uses the same 999cc inline four cylinder engine, which also powers S1000RR. The engine is capable to churn out a maximum power of 160bhp @ 11,000rpm and a peak torque of 112Nm @ 9,250rpm.
The BMW S1000R has ASC (Automatic Stability Control), Race ABS and dual riding modes as standard features, while the Dynamic suspensions is optional. Different modes of the bike offers Rain and Road modes, with the Pro mode and its Dynamic and Dynamic Pro mappings available as optional feature.
Clip-on handle bars also have been replaced by the street type handle bar. By removing the full fairing from the bike, it weighs a little lesser than its racing sibling, and wet weight of the bike is 207 kg. The bike is looking aggressive and bulky by the front forward mass design.
Direct competitor of the bike will be Honda CB1000R, which is also based on Honda's CBR1000RR racing technology. However, CB1000R is very affordable bike in the respective segment and BMW has to match-up with the price of CB1000R to compete with it in the international market.
