BMW seeks to launch below 1000cc bikes in India

BMW Motorrad a two-wheeler subsidiary of Germany based car manufacturer BMW is planning to launch under 1000cc bikes in Indian market by 2012. BMW bikes come in world’s most powerful and well performer bike segment. The company has introduced its bikes in India in the month of January this year with aim of selling 45 motorcycles in this year.
BMW has already sold 15 bikes and targeted to sell around 45 bikes this fiscal year through its India based dealers like Navnit Motors in Mumbai and Deutsche Motors in New Delhi. Both the dealers are, currently, importing BMW bikes directly from Germany.
The company is also interested to set up an assembling facility in India but right after selling 100 bikes. If the BMW bikes get this target, the company will set up an assembly plant.
BMW is offering lots of bike models for India like BMW S 1000RR, BMW K 1300S, BMW R 1200GS, BMW K 1600GTL, BMW R 1200R and BMW HP2 Sports. And BMW S 1000RR has been displayed in Bangalore which might be available by the next month. Presently, all these BMW bikes are above 1,000cc engine and having price rage of Rs. 18 to Rs. 23 lakh in Indian market.
It is expected that Indian super bike market will increase by 1000 units a year with growth of 20 per cent and now BMW is planning to launch below 1000cc bikes in India by 2012 following Hyosung, Kawasaki, Honda and Harley Davidson.
