Hero MotorCorp has finally announced the prices of the Hero Mavrick 440, a new roadster bike built on the Harley-Davidson X440 engine that was jointly developed by Hero and Harley. The bike comes at a starting price of Rs 1,99,000 ex-showroom. Bookings have also been opened and customers who book the motorcycle before 15th February will receive a customised Mavrick kit of accessories and merchandise worth Rs 10,000.
The Hero Mavrick 440 is offered in 3 variants: Base, Mid and Top. The Base variant is priced at Rs 1,99,000 ex-showroom, it is available in one colour scheme: Arctic White and features spoke wheels. It also misses out on connectivity features that both the Mid and Top variant come with.
Mid variant comes at a price of Rs 2,14,000 ex-showroom, and gets two colour schemes: Celestial Blue and Fearless Red, and also features alloy wheels and machine finished engine fins. The Top variant is the most expensive of the 3 and comes at an ex-showroom price of Rs 2,24,000. It features diamond cut alloys and machined engine fins. The Top variant is offered in 2 colours: Phantom Black and Enigma Black. The Enigma Black colour scheme has a more premium looking badging, with gold colour and dual tone seat.
The Mavrick 440 has a roadster like design, with a round LED projector headlight flanked by round LED indicators. The tank looks quite beefy and the design overall gives the bike a commanding presence. The seat is a single piece unit and looks quite spacious. The taillight is an LED unit which is mounted on the seat, and the indicators are round LED units which are mounted on a long-ish number plate holder.
The bike is powered by a 440cc air/oil-cooled 2-valve single cylinder engine which delivers 27Ps at 6000rpm and 36Nm at 4000rpm. Hero claims that 90 percent of the torque is produced at 2000rpm. The engine is the same as used on the Harley-Davidson X440 but the one on the Mavrick produces 2Nm less torque. The Mavrick 440 has a 13.5litre fuel tank.
In terms of underpinnings, the Mavrick 440 is built on a trellis frame and is suspended on a 43mm telescopic fork at front and twin shock absorbers in the rear, with 130mm wheel travel at both ends. The bike rolls on 17-inch wheels at both ends wrapped around in 110-section front and 150-section rear zero-degree steel belted radial MRF tyre.
Braking duties are taken care of by 320mm front and 240mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS. The bike has a seat height of 803mm and a ground clearance of 175mm. Kerb weight varies across the variants, with the spoke wheel base variant having a weight of 191kg and the alloy wheel Mid and Top variants coming at 187kg.
Coming to features, the Mavrick 440 comes with a fully digital LCD instrument console that gives readouts such as speed, fuel level, gear position and also houses the tachometer, odometer and tripmeters. It also gives real time readouts such as distance-to-empty (DTE) and real time mileage.
The instrument console also offers features such as Bluetooth and e-Sim-based connectivity for smartphones, giving a claimed 35 additional functionalities such as turn-by-turn navigation, call and SMS alerts, estimated time of arrival, phone battery indicator and remote tracking. But these functionalities are only available for the Mid and Top variants.
Priced at the Rs 2 lakh mark, the Mavrick 440 seems to be an interesting and value-for-money addition in the retro and neo-retro sub-500cc segment. That said, in this segment, its primary rivals include Royal Enfield Classic 350, Jawa 42, Honda H’ness CB350 and Yezdi Roadster. More powerful alternatives to the bike include Triumph Speed 400, Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 and the Honda CB300R.
