Okinawa has launched the Okhi90, its flagship electric scooter, the country at Rs 1,21,866, pan-India, including FAME II subsidy. The final price will go even lower with the additional state subsidies (wherever applicable). The bookings are open online, test rides will commence at authorised dealerships next week, with deliveries set to start in about 30-60 days. It is available in Glossy Wine Red, Glossy Pearl White, Glossy Ash Grey, and Glossy Jewellery Blue.
The Okhi90’s USP are its 16-inch alloy wheels - patently unusual in the scooter segment, and the large 40-litre underseat storage. Moreover, it also gets practical touches including an underseat USB charging port, boot light, twin apron-mounted utility hooks, an apron-mounted glove box, an illuminated key slot with keyless operation, and a fully digital instrument cluster with turn-by-turn navigation and smartphone connectivity, and OTA (Over The Air) updates. With the connectivity features, riders can access music control, battery charge status, call notification, error notification, anti-theft alarm, geo-fencing, ‘find my vehicle’, maintenance reminder, among others. Oh, and there’s an all-LED lighting system too. Okinawa offers a three-year warranty on the battery as well.
The Okhi90 comes with a 3800W centrally mounted electric motor, a first for the company. It is linked to a 72V, 50Ah removable lithium-ion battery pack that offers a claimed range of 160km. The e-scooter is capable of accelerating from 0-90kmph in 10 seconds (claimed) and can reach 85-90kmph in Sport mode, and 55-60kmph in Eco mode. It even gets a premium looking aluminium swingarm. Underpinnings include a telescopic front fork, twin rear shock absorbers, disc brake at both ends with CBS as standard.

All in all, the Okhi90 is a radical departure from the company’s other products. Moreover, this made-in-India e-scooter’s neutral design should appeal to younger and mature audiences alike. The large 16-inch alloys is almost motorcycle territory but it should help in improving the ride quality at least theoretically. The Okinawa Okhi90 competes against the Ather 450X, Ola S1 Pro, Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube Electric.
