Other scramblers in the market include the Triumph Scrambler 400X and the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401.
Royal Enfield Bear 650 Design
The Bear 650 has a retro design that is similar to what we have already seen on the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. But the brand has made a few changes to make it stand out, such as the addition of more funky colours and graphics.
Out of the 5 colours offered, the Two Four Nine colour scheme stands out. It pays homage to Eddie Mulder, the youngest champion of the California big bear run.
Another interesting bit is the addition of a competition number board mounted on the side-panel, which gives the bike a sportier look. Royal Enfield has also made a few changes to make the bike look a bit more modern.
This includes the use of a compact looking 2-into-1 exhaust instead of the chunkier twin exhausts as seen on the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650. The engine crankcase, piston head and the exhaust end can have also got a matte black finish, giving the bike a unique identity of its own.
Royal Enfield Bear 650 Engine & Performance
The Bear 650 is powered by the same 648cc air & oil-cooled parallel-twin motor as the Interceptor 650. But the engine has undergone a few changes.
It offers 47.4 PS at 7150rpm and 56.5 Nm at 5150rpm, which is 8 percent more torque than before.
Royal Enfield Bear 650 Underpinnings
The bike is built on a twin-cradle frame, and is suspended on a 43mm inverted fork and twin-shock absorbers. The inverted fork offers 130mm wheel travel and the twin-shock absorbers offer 115mm wheel travel. Compared to the Interceptor 650, the Bear offers a ground clearance of 184mm which is 10mm more than the Interceptor 650’s 174mm ground clearance.
The Bear 650 rolls on a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheel setup. Braking is handled by a 320mm front and 270mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS as standard. Royal Enfield is also offering switchable ABS at the rear, which will enhance the bike’s off-road credentials, making it easier to execute controlled slides.
Although the bike is meant to be a scrambler, it is a bit towards the heavier side with its kerb weight (wet) of 216kg.
Royal Enfield Bear 650 Features
The Bear 650 is a bit more modern in terms of features when compared to the Interceptor 650. It gets the same 4-inch TFT console as the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450.
The console offers smartphone connectivity and features such as full-fledged navigation via GoogleMaps, and music control.
BikeDekho Says
Overall, the Bear 650 is an interesting bike which will offer a different riding experience, something a bit more modern.
It will be a good choice for riders who are looking to experience the 648cc parallel twin engine, but in a more modern package which has a lot more features to offer.
