It looks better, has more features & promises to be more comfortable
Just a couple of weeks after Ola Electric introduced the MoveOS 3, Ather has responded by launching the updated 450X. Here’s everything that’s new on the electric scooter.
New Colours
What will instantly grab your attention are the four new colours. The True Red and Lunar Grey look particularly attention-grabbing while the Cosmic Black gives the scooter a stealthy look. Among these, the Salt Green, meanwhile, looks properly funky and replaces the Mint Green shade.
Other changes on the scooter include a revised seat, one that's 14 percent thicker throughout. The rider's seat has been lengthened and widened, offering better contour along with a slimmer front profile to make it easier for shorter riders to flatten their foot. The pillion seat, meanwhile, has just been lengthened. And what sweetens the deal is it's compatible with all the current Ather electric scooters. You can swap your old one for the new one for free at any Ather service centre until the end of January 2023.
Improved Navigation
The seven-inch TFT touchscreen is carried forward from the Gen 3. That said, it does get new UI through Atherstack 5.0 firmware, facilitating multitasking.
Ather has also given the updated 450X improved 3D maps that allows you to change the perspective and even tilt/rotate the maps.
The maps will now also have real-time traffic updates, giving you a better knowledge of what awaits you further ahead on the roads. Overall, the navigation comes closer to the smartphone maps' experience.
New Tech
The new electric scooter even gets Autohold (hill hold control), to help you keep your Ather stationary on steep slopes without the usage of brakes. What's exciting is that this function can be engaged for an indefinite amount of time. What's more is that Ather has planned to offer cruise control, crawl control & even advanced regenerative braking in the coming months! Ather has truly been listening to its customers.
Ather's trip planner has been updated with multiple stops, to help you realistically plan your trips and manage the range anixety that much better.
The scooter continues to be the same mechanically. Its heart is the same 3.3kW motor with a peak output of 6.2kW and a 3.7kWh battery pack. Underpinnings too remain the same as before.
Extension Of The Battery Warranty
The standard battery pack warranty has now been extended to five years or a colossal 60,000km! If you're an existing Ather 450X owner, worry not. The battery protect plan is on sale at a discounted price for you for the month of January 2023.
Enhanced Charging Experience
Given the difficulties many EV owners face in order to install chargers in their parking lots, Ather will also offer a Universal 3.3kW AC charger for all two-,three, and four-wheelers EVs, one that can be installed in the common points in residential parking areas. In addition to that, Ather intends to add 150 fast chargers every month. In fact, by March 2023, the company will have as many as 1300 fast chargers. Here's everything that's compatible with the older generations of Ather scooters.
All these updates definitely make the scooter a more wholesome and well-rounded package than before. That said, they come with a hike in the price. The Plus variant of the scooter has now been priced at Rs 1,37,195, while the 450X retails at Rs 1,60,102 (ex-showroom Delhi with FAME II and state subsidies). Deliveries for the same, meanwhile, start from today. Given the greedy bunch we are, we would've loved to see Ather bring in more power for the 450X given that a leaked homologation document indicated so.
