At the launch event for the 790 Duke, KTM India confirmed that it will launch the BS6-compliant variant of the naked motorcycle by January or February next year. As of now, there’s no confirmation about its price, but we expect the BS6-compliant variant to command a premium of Rs 50,000 over the current model, which retails at Rs 8.64 lakh (ex-showroom India).

Just like the current model, the BS6-compliant variant will be brought to our shores via the CKD (completely knocked down) route. Expect the Austrian manufacturer to give the BS6-compliant variant some subtle cosmetic updates like a different paint scheme or new decals to differentiate it from the current model. Apart from these aesthetic changes, the motorcycle will remain mechanically unchanged compared to the current model. However, whether the BS6-compliant model will have different performance figures or not is yet to be known. In its current state of tune, the 799cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine makes 104.6PS and 87Nm.

On a side note, KTM is also testing 790 Duke’s successor, the 890 Duke. But there’s no word about its official launch yet, hinting that KTM might update the existing 790 Duke to meet the upcoming Euro 5 emission norms soon. Expect KTM to showcase the updated variant at the upcoming EICMA motor show in Milan, Italy.
