Bultaco To Make Its Re-Entry With The Electric Powered Brinco

For those who are not familiar with this name, Bultaco is a Spanish brand that used to offer its racing and off-road motorcycles till 1980s before the painful period of its bankruptcy. The firm was founded in 1958 and has announced its coming back to the markets few months back. However, Bultaco would be focussing on electric bikes this time, which was further confirmed with the showcasing of its electric bike concept, Brinco in December 2014.
Going into the details, the eco-friendly machine is basically an electric powered pedal assisted two-wheeler that will come fitted with a 1.5kW electric motor. It has been configured to churn out power as per three driving modes with different power outputs viz. Sport, Tour and Eco Mode to generate a net power of 2kW, 1.5kW and 0.8kW respectively. The peak torque in the three modes remains the same clocking at 60Nm. The portable and easily removable battery takes 3 hours to get charged completely and gives a range of 30kms to the vehicle. However, the inclusion of pedal along with the electric drive can stretch up the range to 80kms, as claimed by the company.
Revealing the reason of company’s decision to go electric, Mr. Paco Bulto Jr., the son of the founder of the company stated, ““My father always used to say that the ideal thing would be a motor with a constant torque, with the same response under any number of revolutions, for a motorcycle without gear shifts. And he would say – ‘as if we had an electric motor’.”
The bike has been bolted on a lightweight aluminium frame and sports twin shock absorbers up front and a 220mm mono-shock at the rear. The powerful braking system comprises of disc brakes equipped at the front as well as rear that come installed over 24 x 3.0-inch wheels. As for safety, the machine has been assisted with an intelligent security system that involves locking and unlocking of the vehicle with a simple wristband. Furthermore, the buyer can also link their Android or iOS smartphone with the vehicle to keep a track of the remaining battery, energy consumption and upload them to their cloud storage space. An optional sim card is being offered with the vehicle that allows it to locate without any difficulty.
Coming to the price, the electric bike is priced at € 4,800 which equals to Rs. 3.4 lacs. According to the company’s official website, only 175 of these have been manufactured out of which only 35 units are available for sale presently. However, Bultaco has announced the opening of its new production facility in Barcelona that will clock 1,000 units annually.
