These tips will go a long way in keeping your two-wheeler in top shape during these uncertain times
The coronavirus pandemic has gripped the entire nation, forcing authorities to enforce a 21-day lockdown in India. With cases increasing rapidly with every passing day, things are uncertain for the near future. And since most of us riders are confined to our homes, we might as well make good use of this time by keeping our beloved two-wheelers in good shape so that when things get normal, we can ride out to our heart’s content. Here are some tips to maintain your bike’s health:
A Thorough External Inspection Helps:
Apart from cleaning your motorcycle, make sure you check the tightness of the nuts and bolts. Keeping a two-wheeler unused for a long period also increases the risk of rats fiddling with the wires, so make sure the cables and wires are in top shape. If you have a spare steel scrub that is used to clean utensils, use it to cover up the exhaust hole. Add a few drops of peppermint (pudina) oil to the steel scrub as it acts as a deterrent to rats.
To prevent insect infestation, you can use cockroach/insect spray around the area where your two-wheeler is parked. Keeping a two-wheeler unused for long also increases the risk of the tyres getting deflated. So, once a week, check the tyre pressure. Apply WD 40 on the clutch and brake cable joints so that those areas are protected from rusting. If you don’t have one, coconut oil will also do, at least for the time being.
Keep Your Two-wheeler’s Engine All Warmed Up:
Keeping your two-wheeler idle for long periods can result in the battery losing its charge slowly. Hence, it is always better to crank up the engine once a week or two and keep it idling for about 10-15 mins. This way, oil circulates to all parts of the engine’s internals and the engine also charges up the battery. Otherwise, you might end up with a dead battery at the end of the lockdown.
