The cruiser looks every bit retro and packs quite some modern features
UPDATE: Royal Enfield has launched the Super Meteor 650 in India. Full details in our launch story]
After endless spy shots and multiple teasers, the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 has finally broken cover! Have a look at it via a set of detailed images:
The Super Meteor 650 nails the quintessential cruiser look with a round headlight, wide handlebar and an overall low-slung & laidback yet muscular design. While it looks properly retro, bits like the all-LED lighting add a touch of modernity.
The Super Meteor 650’s 648cc parallel-twin mill is a familiar one, one that we’ve previously seen on the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650. The one on the Super Meteor 650 makes 47PS and 52.3Nm against the 650 twins’ 47.65PS and 52Nm. Its engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission along with a slip-assist clutch.
The Super Meteor 650 packs quite some premium hardware. It is suspended on a 43mm inverted fork, a first for a Royal Enfield bike and dual shocks, which aren’t gas-charged but are preload-adjustable. While it sounds premium, the 120mm of suspension travel up front and 101mm wheel travel at the rear sound quite low for our broken roads.
Braking is taken care of by a 320mm disc at the front and a 300mm one at the rear (larger than the one on the 650 twins). There’s also the added safety net of dual channel ABS. The Super Meteor 650 rides on a 19- and 16-inch alloy wheel setup (F/R respectively). The 100-section front and 150-section rear tyres are tubeless CEAT Zoom Cruze units.

In terms of features, the Super Meteor 650 gets a monopod, semi-digital instrument cluster and it also comes with smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation, like the one we’ve seen on the Royal Enfield Meteor 350.
The switchgear is an old-school rotary style one, similar to the one on the other J-platform bikes but is a cast aluminium unit, a first from the company
Tipping the scales at 241kg, the Super Meteor 650 is a substantial 39kg heavier than the Interceptor 650. Its 740mm seat height, though, sounds quite accessible for riders of all heights and is lower than the Meteor 350’s by 25mm. The 15.7-litre fuel tank on the Super Meteor 650 is also a lot larger than the Interceptor 650's 13.7-litre one.
The Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 is likely to make its official India debut at the Rider Mania 2022 and will be launched in India in January 2023. We expect this bike to come with a price tag of Rs 3.35 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), which will make it the most expensive Royal Enfield. Its immediate rival in our market would be the Kawasaki Vulcan S.
