Gogoro Viva Electric Scooter Trademarked in India

While the Hero-Gogoro eMaestro could be a family-oriented offering, the Gogoro Viva might be just the right electric scooter for the youth

Taiwanese electric two-wheeler manufacturer and battery swapping giant Gogoro trademarked the Gogoro Viva in India. Interestingly, the trademark was registered in October 2019, the same month when the Viva was unveiled globally. Gogoro might have had plans to launch it later in India, but considering its recent partnership with Hero MotoCorp, the Taiwanese brand might just bring the electric scooter here in the country after Hero-Gogoro’s first offering arrives at showrooms.

The Hero-Gogoro partnership is meant to spawn Hero-branded electric scooters with Gogoro’s battery swapping technology. The first product will likely be the Hero eMaestro enhanced with Gogoro’s swappable battery packs. While the eMaestro will be more of a family-oriented electric scooter, the Gogoro Viva is designed to appeal to younger riders. 

The e-scooter’s vibrant colours and funky body panels look unconventional yet appealing. It features all-LED lighting, an LCD instrument cluster with smartphone compatibility, and two riding modes (Normal and Super Boost). The electric hub motor churns out 3kW and 85Nm (115Nm in the premium variant with keyless operation). It is linked to a swappable battery pack offering a claimed range of 85km at 30kmph, making it ideal for intra-city runabouts. 

It is also quite light, tipping the scales at 80kg (with the battery pack). This, coupled with the low 740mm seat, should make it easy to maneuver even by shorter riders. The scooter also gets a generous 21.6-litre underseat storage to keep your knick-knacks. The electric scooter employs a telescopic front fork, twin rear shock absorbers, and disc brakes at both ends with CBS for optimum handling.

The Gogoro Viva costs an equivalent of Rs 1.47 lakh in Taiwan. That’s pretty steep for what the scooter offers, so the brand might have to make it completely in India if it were to bring down costs. The upcoming Hero-Gogoro eMaestro and Gogoro Viva should be able to take on the Ola Electric scooter that’s scheduled to be launched soon.
