It took its own sweet time to reach the market but with its top-notch features and a 0-96kmph time of 3 seconds, the electric Harley certainly looks worth it
- The 15.5kWh battery has a claimed range of 235km.
- The LiveWire has a top speed of 177kmph.
- It features four riding modes, cornering ABS, traction control, and more.
You might have heard that the future is electric, and even Harley-Davidson, who’s known for making big, brute petrol-powered bikes, has one all-electric motorcycle in its portfolio now. The American bike manufacturer has now revealed the official specifications of the LiveWire which will set you back by $29,799 in the US (around Rs 20.42 lakh), and you might be in for a surprise.
The electric motor produces 105PS and 116Nm of torque, which is available from the word go! However, when it comes to torque figures, the LiveWire loses out to the Xero SR/F, which produces 156Nm of torque! Harley-Davidson claims that the LiveWire can go from 0-96kmph in 3 seconds and it takes just 1.9 seconds to sprint from 96kmph to 128kmph! The fact that the LiveWire weighs a smidge under 250kg makes these numbers quite appreciable.
Harley-Davidson says that the 15.5kWh battery is good for 235km in the city and 152km out on the highway. The company also says that the battery can be charged from 0-80 per cent in 40 minutes via a DC fast charger.
When it comes to cycle parts, Harley has equipped its first all-electric offering with top-notch components. For instance, the suspension setup is from Showa and braking hardware is from Brembo. In terms of features, H-D has made sure that there is enough electronic equipment on board to keep you busy. The 4.3-inch TFT display is compatible with iOS and Android apps. Also, apart from the usual trove of information, it also displays battery status, charging status, turn-by-turn navigation, and more! As for rider aids, it gets different ride modes (Sport, Range, Road and Rain), cornering ABS, cornering traction control and Drag-Torque Slip Control System (DSCS), which prevents the rear wheel from locking up in slippery conditions.
So, the LiveWire is equipped with almost all the features present in other Harley cruisers out there gets. But the big question is: would you consider this over the brand’s iconic V-twin engines?
