There are some major and some minor changes on the incoming model
Ather Energy launched the updated 450X and 450 Plus for Rs 1,57,507 and Rs 1,35,996 (ex-showroom India) respectively. That means that the 450X carries a Rs 5,106 premium over its predecessor. So what does the e-scooter have to offer, to justify the extra money? Let us find out:
Bigger Battery
The updated 450X packs a bigger 3.66kWh lithium-ion battery pack, over the 2.9kWh unit on the older one. The TrueRange in Eco mode has gone up to 105km from 85km. The Ride mode on the other hand now offers a TrueRange of 85km, from the 70km it used to offer earlier.
The bigger battery pack also helps the new model offer a claimed Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) range of 146km, 30km more than its predecessor. With that, its reliability has also gone up by a claimed 20 percent.
That said, with the bigger battery pack, the 0-80 percent charging time has increased to 4 hours 30 minutes from 3 hours 35 minutes on the older model.

Bigger Scooter
The bigger battery pack also translates to a slightly heavier scooter. It now tips the scales at 111.6kg, a nominal 3.6kg increase over the 2nd gen Ather 450X.
The Ather 450X is now also a bigger scooter overall. It is now 1837mm long (37mm more), 734mm wide (34mm more) and has a wheelbase of 1295mm (17mm more). We’ve reached out to the company and will have clarity on it soon. Ground clearance for the scooter is now 7mm lesser, at 153mm.
Better Features
Moving to features, the Gen 3 Ather 450X gets 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM, both of which have been doubled. This enables a faster UI and makes toggling through the apps that much easier. The e-scooter also features redesigned rearview mirrors, offering better peripheral vision. It now also gets a new side step for the pillion. Both the mirrors and the side step can be retrofitted on the previous gen scooters.
Better Handling
Ather Energy has equipped the 450X Gen 3 with MRF Nylogrip Zapper-N tyres, which are grippier than the tyres that came on the Gen 2. Furthermore, the rear tyre is now a 100-section unit and has a rounder profile compared to the 90-section one seen earlier. The tyres are compatible with the previous generation scooters as well.
The scooter is now available in three colours: White, Mint Green and Space Grey, with the White colour scheme making a comeback.
With all these updates, we think the Rs 5,106 premium is justified. To know how these updates add up in the real world, check out our comprehensive review here.
