To make the trial phase of Delhi odd-even formula easy for commuters, Hero Electric will bring out 100 e-bikes to make daily commuting easy. Hero is India’s largest manufacturer of electric two-wheelers and the company will make these vehicles available at 15 selected points in Delhi.
"Each chosen location will have 5-10 Hero e-bikes with a driver during the rush hour between 8 am and noon, and from 4 pm to 8 pm, to help commuters reach last-mile destinations from a public point such as metro stations or a busy bus terminal, for no charge," said the company in a statement.
Deciding upon a mutual agreement, the company has got into a deal with a booking application ‘Bikemate’. The app is available on android and iOS platforms both, through this platform the commuters can put in request for a free ride in Delhi. As reported by Business Standard, Sohinder Gill, Chief Executive of Hero Electric, said, "The idea is to help office goers and general commuters experience the joy and comfort of zero-pollution electric bikes and also to get to know the advantages of switching over to electric mobility,'’
As two-wheelers are set free from the odd-even formula, out of the 89 lac registered vehicles in Delhi, 51 lac are two-wheelers, so keeping two-wheelers out of the policy might spoil the imposed rule. Even though bikes or scooters takes less space and provide good fuel efficiency, one two wheeler is as harmful as a BS-III standard car.
