Both share the same 440cc engine developed under the Hero-Harley partnership. Competing in the 440cc roadster segment, here is how they differ from each other
Hero Mavrick 440 and Harley-Davidson X440 are both built on the same platform, which means they share various components, including the powerful 440cc engine which was developed under the Hero-Harley partnership. However, despite featuring the same engine and platform, these bikes differ from each other in many ways.
Design
In terms of looks, both bikes showcase a neo-retro roadster design language but still look very different from each other following a design identity of their own.
The Mavrick 440 is more compact and elegant than the Harley but doesn’t have as much road presence. The 440cc Hero features a sleek and modern look coupled with a muscular and sporty-looking fuel tank and tank extensions. On the other hand, the Harley-Davidson X440 stands out as a premium motorcycle with its unmistakable Harley-Davidson brand identity visible in its looks. It features a rounded “turtle” fuel tank similar to bigger Harleys. Both the bikes feature circular LED headlights, while the Mavrick’s headlight looks slightly bigger than the X440’s.
At the rear, the Mavrick features a raised tail section with a longer number plate holder than the Harley X440. Additionally, the Mavrick's taillight is tucked under the seat, whereas the Harley X440's taillight is placed on the fender. Furthermore, both bikes get a single-piece seat. The Harley X440 is equipped with a split grab rail, while the Mavrick 440 comes with a single-piece grab rail.
Engine
Both bikes are powered by the same 440cc air-/oil-cooled 2-valve single-cylinder engine but have a slight variation in torque. The Harley X440 produces 27PS at 6000rpm and 38Nm at 4000rpm, whereas the Mavrick 440 delivers 27Ps at 6000rpm and 36Nm at 4000rpm, which is 2Nm less than the Harley.
Underpinnings
Both bikes are equipped with a steel trellis frame and share the same 320mm front and 240mm rear disc brakes, with dual-channel ABS as standard. That said, their suspension setups and wheel sizes are different. The Harley X440 comes equipped with a 43mm KYB inverted fork while the Hero Mavrick 440 has a 43mm telescopic fork to manage costs. Both bikes share a similar rear suspension with dual shock absorbers offering 7-step preload adjustability.
Another difference is in the wheels, with the Harley X440 sporting an 18-inch wheel at the front and a 17-inch wheel at the rear, whereas the Mavrick 440 is equipped with 17-inch wheels at both ends.
Instrumentation and Features
Both bikes are completely different in terms of features. The Hero Mavrick 440 is equipped with a negatively lit LCD instrument console with smartphone connectivity that displays call and message alerts, turn-by-turn navigation, phone battery status along with other basic info along with the tell-tale lights. The top variant enhances connectivity with an e-Sim that adds 35 additional features to the Mavrick including turn-by-turn navigation, call and SMS alerts, estimated time of arrival, phone battery indicator, and remote tracking.
On the other hand, the Harley X440 features a simple and easy-to-read colour TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity. While it doesn't offer as many features as the Mavrick, it covers the essentials such as call and SMS alerts, music control, and turn-by-turn navigation.
Verdict
While both the bikes are built on the same platform featuring the same engine and underpinnings, they still differ a lot in terms of design and features that provide both the bikes with a unique riding experience. Moreover, the Hero Mavrick 440 focuses more on practicality and affordability, offering a range of features tailored for urban commuting while maintaining a sleek and modern design aesthetic. The Harley X440, on the other hand, focuses on premiumness, featuring the brand’s DNA, and building on the Harley-Davidson brand identity.
