The charging stations will be open to all electric two-wheelers
Hero MotoCorp and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) have announced their collaboration to set up charging infrastructure across the country for electric two-wheelers. The charging stations will be set up in a phased manner, as part of BPCL’s promise of converting 7,000 fuel stations to ‘Energy Stations’ that provide multiple fueling options.
In the first phase, charging stations will be set up in Delhi and Bengaluru, followed by seven more cities. Each station will have DC and AC chargers, and will be available to use for all electric two-wheelers. This is a welcome move, considering the fact that currently companies have been setting up charging infra specific to their products.

These charging stations will follow a cashless transaction model and the ‘charging experience’ will be controlled by Hero’s mobile app.
Having an open-to-all charging infrastructure across the country is the need of the hour, but this collaboration also gives us a glimpse into Hero MotoCorp’s endeavour with EVs. Last year, the Indian two-wheeler giant partnered with Taiwanese company Gogoro known for battery-swapping technology.
Not only has Hero filed as many as six trademarks for its new sub-brand ‘Vida’, but has also promised to introduce its first EV in March 2022. Given the timing of the announcement of its charging infrastructure, we can only conclude that the Hero e-scooter isn’t far away.
