A worthy rival to the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R?
Honda, one of the most popular motorcycle brands in India, has recently patented a new name in Japan: "CBR400R Four." This new name is creating a lot of excitement because it strongly hints that Honda might be working on a new bike with a four-cylinder engine. The "Four" in the name suggests that this new CBR400R will come with an inline-four engine.
If Honda decides to bring this new CBR400R to India, it will face competition from the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R, which has already made its debut in the Indian market. The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R comes fully imported (CBU) and is priced at Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It has a liquid-cooled four-cylinder engine that makes 75PS @14,500rpm and 37.6Nm @12,500rpm.
The new Honda CBR400R is expected to be priced similarly and could even offer similar power figures.
Honda currently has a CBR400R in the Japanese market, but it gets a parallel twin engine which makes 45PS@9000rpm and 38Nm @7,500rpm.
For India, in the big bike segment, Honda offers the CB500X and the XL750 Transalp, which are 500cc and 750cc adventure bikes, respectively. Other bikes in the 400-450cc sports segment include the Aprilia RS457, KTM RC390, Yamaha R3, and Kawasaki Ninja 500. If Honda introduces the CBR400R Four, it will add another exciting option for Indian riders looking for high-performance bikes in this competitive segment.
