Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) can be accredited with giving the best surprise of the 2016 Auto Expo, in the form of the NAVi. A day after this launch, the company announced that the crossover mini-bike had already garnered interest from Indian buyers. The company registered more than 50 bookings for the Honda NAVi within 12 hours of its launch on Tuesday.
Honda’s first 100 per cent ‘developed in India’ bike, the NAVi will be launched in a phased manner across tier-I and big urban cities over the first 6 months. Then onward to semi-urban, followed by rural sections in respective phases. The funky mix of a scooter and motorcycle was launched at a price of Rs. 39,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi), along with a mobile phone app for customers to get an idea of the possibilities with this segment-buster.
The NAVi is powered by Honda’s 109.19cc four-stroke single cylinder HET engine, with a V-matic (automatic) gearbox. It is capable of producing 7.83bhp at 7,000rpm, enabling a company-claimed speed of 81 kmph. It will be available in three variants - Street, Adventure, and Off-road and seems targeted at urban youth. The mini-bike comes in five attractive colours namely - Patriot Red, Shasta White, Hooper Green, Sparky Orange and Black.
The Japanese auto giant announced this at a press conference today, where it also outlined its plans for the coming year. Honda, which has 4,200 dealerships across the country now, stated that it had added 800 of these in the last year. It plans to add 500 more during this year, taking its dealership count to 4,700 by the end of 2016.
