India Speed Week 2016 (ISW) Scheduled For December 9-11

Kolkata is all set to be a new hub of drag racing with the 2016 India Speed Week (ISW), starting from December 9th, 2016.

Elite Octane Inc. has announced the India Speed Week 2016 (ISW) from December 9-11, 2016, in Kolkata. Governed by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the 3-day drag racing event seeks to place Kolkata firmly on the national and international airstrip racing phenomena. The event will witness drag racing teams and speedsters competing across various automobile segments and categories on an air strip to prove who is the fastest of all. 

Announcing the event of speed, Amit Modi, chairman, India Speed Week, said “We are thrilled to announce an event so grand. We plan to exhibit this large scale affair by showcasing the best in drag racing, auto exhibitions, adventure sports and entertainment across the three days of India Speed Week. Public Roads, no matter how deserted or controlled can never match the safety, peace of mind and thrill of an airstrip. The zestful show, in a never been seen before format, will celebrate extravaganza, adrenaline and glamour.”

Apart from the young talent epitomising speed and adrenaline, the flag off of the India Speed Week will see renowned personalities such as Baichung Bhutia, John Abraham, Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff. Both the categories -- bikes and cars -- will be divided into subcategories, depending on the class, and engine capacities shall be the primary draw. Besides that, there would be machines with various stages of engine and other modifications, from mundane filter and header changes to extreme turbo and NOS-enabled versions.

The backdrop for ISW 2016 will be the Behala Flying Club, with its 1km-long runway. The drag racing shall be in the quarter mile format and the one fastest to cover the distance from the standstill will be the winner in the respective category. There will be appropriate arrangements for the safety of competitors as well as spectators. The safety team will comprise of rescue, firefighting and medical support and the event will take place under the guidelines set by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India.
