The bikemaker could commence export by end of this year
- The Czech Republic could be the first European country to get Jawa bikes.
- Jawa, Jawa Forty Two and Perak most likely to be exported.
- Bikes could be slightly modified for European regulations.
Classic Legends could begin exporting its Jawa motorcycles to Europe by the end of this year. Reports indicate the Indian bikemaker has cleared the regulatory requirements to sell motorcycles in Europe and the first country to receive its bikes will be the Czech Republic, the birthplace of the original Jawa. Classic Legends is yet to confirm this update.
Jawa has already updated its motorcycles to BS6/Euro 5 spec and would have to make just minor modifications to comply with European regulations. The European-spec motorcycle’s design could potentially remain unchanged. The India-spec Jawa and Jawa Forty Two get a 293cc liquid-cooled motor. While Jawa has not revealed the power output of the BS6-compliant motor, we expect it to be similar to the BS4 unit’s 27.3PS and 28Nm. The Perak gets a larger 334cc liquid-cooled motor. It was launched in BS6 trim and offers 30PS and 31Nm. All three bikes get a six-speed gearbox.
The Jawa motorcycles use a similar double-cradle frame and get telescopic forks. While the Jawa and Jawa Forty Two get dual rear shock absorbers, the Perak has a monoshock. It also gets a larger 140-section rear seater. Unlike Jawa’s other retro bikes, the Perak is a bobber and hence, is strictly a single-seater motorcycle.
If this report turns out to be true, it will be interesting to see how Classic Legends manages to balance its export orders with the overwhelming backlog for its Jawa and Jawa Forty motorcycles that’s led to a long waiting list stretching over months. This will further be impacted as Jawa’s only manufacturing facility in Pithampur is shut down due to the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown.
