American hot rods, Chinese tourers and Italian ADVs
The Kawasaki Ninja 650 has been launched in an all-new form at Rs 6.24 lakh. In addition to getting a cleaner, BS6-compliant motor, the bike also features a fresh new look and a host of added features. But if the updated bike still doesn’t suit your fancy, here’s everything else you can get for a similar price:
Harley-Davidson Street Rod
For just a bit more cash, you can get yourself something a whole lot bigger, louder and American-er. The Harley-Davidson Street Rod takes the base of the somewhat boring Street 750 and adds a whole new fun factor. It’s bold, it’s brash and it makes a loud statement. If you like it, whip out your chequebook and tear one out for Rs 6.55 lakh.
Benelli TNT 600i
For many people, a ‘big bike’ is characterised by that trademark high-pitched inline-four scream. So if you want your mates to know that you’re arriving on your big bike long before they can actually see you, shell out the Rs 6.20 lakh asking price for the Benelli TNT 600i. It may not be the most dynamically capable bike out there but it looks cool and sounds great, and to a lot of people, that’s enough.
Benelli TRK 502X
A more functional and capable motorcycle in the Benelli stable is the TRK 502X adventure tourer. The more hardcore cousin of the standard TRK 502, this baby rolls on 19-inch/17-inch wire-spoke wheels and packs in ample suspension travel and ground clearance so that you can take on the rough stuff unfazed. And this being a Benelli, the exhaust note is also an absolute treat. The spec sheet might say it’s a twin but this motor sounds eerily close to an inline-4 at times. All yours for just Rs 5.50 lakh.
SWM Superdual T
Another off-road friendly motorcycle in this price bracket is the SWM Superdual T. It might not seem substantial on paper, with just a single-cylinder engine, but the unit in question displaces a healthy 600cc and this is quite a lightweight motorcycle. Its beauty lies in its simplicity and if that appeals to you then you can pick yours up for Rs 6.50 lakh.
CFMoto 650GT
The final bike on this list comes from Chinese manufacturer CFMoto in the form of its 650GT sports tourer. It certainly has big-bike looks and is powered by a reasonably healthy 650cc twin-cylinder motor, making it the most direct competitor to the Ninja 650. It’s also reasonably feature rich, which when combined with the Rs 5.49 lakh price tag makes it a great value for money proposition.
