Slightly more power and a few extra features, here’s what the ZX-4RR has to offer
Kawasaki India has launched the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR in India, at a price of Rs 9,10,000 (ex-showroom). The bike is Rs 61,000 more expensive than the Ninja ZX-4R and is now India’s most expensive 400cc bike.
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR is a supersport offering from the Japanese manufacturer and comes with the same aggressive design language that we have come to associate with Kawasaki.
The bike features a twin LED headlight setup with the sharp edges complementing the overall supersport design. The bike is currently being offered in one colour scheme, the iconic Kawasaki Lime Green/Ebony.
It is powered by a 399cc liquid-cooled in-line four engine which produces 77PS at 14,500rpm and 39Nm at 13,000rpm. Which is 2PS and 1.4Nm more than the Ninja ZX-4R’s output of 75PS at 14,500rpm and 37.6Nm at 12,500rpm. With the RAM air intake the ZX-4RR has a maximum power output to 80PS. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox, with assist-and-slipper clutch and bi-directional quickshifter as standard.
In terms of underpinnings, the ZX-4RR shares the same frame as the Kawasaki ZX-4R, which is a steel trellis frame. But the suspension setup is quite different. The ZX-4RR gets a 37mm preload adjustable Showa SFF-BP (Separate Function Fork-Big Piston) inverted fork and a fully adjustable Showa BFRC-lite monoshock.
The bike rolls on 17-inch alloys at both ends with 120-section front and 160-section rear tubeless tyres. Braking duties are handled by twin 290mm discs at the front with 4-piston callipers and a 220mm single-piston calliper disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS as standard. The ZX-4RR has a ground clearance of 135mm and a seat height of 800mm. It has a kerb weight of 189kg and a fuel tank capacity of 15-litres.
In terms of features, the bike comes with a 4.3-inch TFT display which gives readouts like speed, tachometer readings, fuel level, gear position and odometer and trip meter readouts. There are two display modes on offer: Normal and Circuit. The console also offers smartphone connectivity via Kawasaki's ‘Rideology the App’ smartphone application.
Additionally, It gets 4 riding modes as standard: Rain, Road, Sport and Rider. The ‘Rider’ mode is a customizable one and allows riders to fine tune the riding experience to their liking. For enhanced safety, the ZX-4RR gets Kawasaki’s traction control system as well.
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR currently has no direct rivals in the market and close alternatives would include the Kawasaki Ninja 650 as well as the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R, which offer similar levels of performance. If you are looking for something more powerful, then you can look at the Kawasaki Z900 which is priced at Rs 9,38,000, only Rs 28,000 more expensive than the Ninja ZX-4RR.
