From electric to liquid-cooled supersports, there’s a lot of alternatives to the new Japanese retro roadster

Kawasaki launched the W175 at Rs 1.47 lakh (ex-showroom India). While it is the most affordable offering from the Japanese manufacturer, the retro roadster is still quite expensive for what it offers. Here are a few alternatives to the W175 in the similar price range:

TVS Ronin: Rs 1,49,000

TVS’ latest offering not only costs exactly as much as the Special Edition Red of the Kawasaki W175 and offers almost 7PS and 6Nm more. Backing that performance is the superior braking and suspension setup and a bunch of modern features. Now, that’s clearly a more value for money proposition than the W175.

Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Retro: Rs 1,49,900

What Ronin doesn’t offer is a proper old-school look, and if that’s what you are after, the Hunter 350 Retro fits the bill. From wire-spoke rims to the simple, old-school styling, the Hunter has it all and to top that off, has a big displacement and performance advantage too, all for just Rs 900 more than the top-spec W175.

Yamaha R15S: Rs 1,61,900

Moving on from the simpler, air/oil-cooled engines, there are a bunch of thoroughly modern products that are available in the same price range, including the “practical” iteration of the Japanese supersport. It packs a liquid-cooled 155cc single-cylinder motor with variable valve actuation, slipper clutch and even dual-channel ABS.

Yamaha Aerox 155: Rs 1,39,300

Motorcycles apart, there are even scooters that have more performance and features than the W175. The Aerox 155 features R15-derived 155cc liquid-cooled engine making 15PS and 13.9Nm, which is 2PS and 0.6Nm more than Kawasaki’s retro machine. Furthermore, the sporty scooter even packs Bluetooth connectivity and a charger.

Ather 450X: Rs 1,39,005

And if it’s a blend of performance and features you want, the Ather 450X is the best bet in this price range. It flaunts a TFT touchscreen console with smartphone connectivity and navigation. And being an electric, you don’t have to worry about the fuel prices or high service costs.
