The upcoming retro middleweight will borrow its motor from the existing Z650
Last month, Kawasaki teased an upcoming model, which we suspected was the Z650RS. Now, its type-approval documents have been leaked on the web, confirming quite a few specifications.
Firstly, the bike will wear the Z650RS badge, and it has been codenamed ER650M. Furthermore, as suggested by the leaked documents, the Z650-derived 649cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled motor will dish out 68.25PS and 64Nm (0.25PS more than the streetfighter cousin). The files also reveal that the top speed will be limited to 191kmph.

Even the dimensions of the Z650RS have been revealed. It’ll tip the scales at 187kg, which is 4kg more than the India-spec Z650. The wheelbase is slightly shorter at 1,405mm as opposed to its sibling’s 1,410mm. Expect an upright riding position on the retro-middleweight.
Apart from that, expect the bike to have a conventional telescopic fork and dual disc brakes at the front and a single unit at the rear. Dual-channel ABS will be standard. The official teaser revealed the probable twin-pod instrument cluster to go with the overall retro theme.
Kawasaki will likely launch the Z650RS in India by the end of this year or early 2022. We reckon an asking price of Rs 6.35 lakh would be appropriate and manage to interest riders looking for an upgrade. The bike will compete with the Honda CB650R and Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.
