A recent ban on imported tyres means that the Metzeler Tourance rubber will no longer be available for the 390 Adventure
The bad news from KTM continues. Just a couple of weeks ago we learned that the RC 390 will now come shod with MRF tyres, and the latest news is that the 390 Adventure will forego its Metzeler Tourance tyres and get MRF Meteor M rubber instead. These changes are because of a recent ban on imported tyres, put in place to “boost domestic sales and employment opportunities”. Tyre sizes on the Adventure will remain the same at 100/90-19 and 130/80-17.
We’re certainly in favour of supporting domestic manufacturing, and tyres from Indian manufacturers are widely used on commuters, small bikes and scooters, where they get the job done well. But the fact of the matter is that when performance levels rise, products from Indian manufacturers currently just aren’t at the same level as overseas brands. This ban on imported tyres seems like yet another short-sighted, hare-brained knee jerk reaction from the government and we hope to see it repealed sooner rather than later.
