KTM is bringing a new member into the Duke’s family for filling the gap between the Duke 690 and Super Duke R 1290. The new member is expected to be equipped with around 800cc and will be known as Duke 890. The bike is spied while testing in Spain and is expected to arrive in 2017. If launched in India, it will create its own premium segment and will compete with Kawasaki Z800. It will also bring a fifth capacity to the existing Duke series that includes the 125 and 390 models.
Duke 890 will be bolted on a steel trellis frame just like the other models in the range. It is mostly concealed by bodywork and rider in the image, as we can see this. The styling of the bike is closest to the 690 variant along with a similar headlamp unit, which is less angular and aggressive-looking as compared to the 1290 Super Duke R. It will feature double-sided swing-arm like its younger sibling, where its elder sibling comes with the single-sided swingarm.
Talking about powertrains, it will be loaded with a parallel-twin engine, where its younger sibling comes fitted with single engine and 1290 houses V-twin engine. If focused closely on the image, we can see just behind the portion of exhaust pipe a second one exiting the right-hand cylinder.
