KTM to get New Engine Platform by 2017, New Gen Models Lined-up

KTM’s Duke to get younger siblings as the company is planning to add lower displacement models in its series by 2017. Presently, Duke is available in two different variants 200cc and 390cc. The new generation models will be based on a new engine platform, informed Stefan Pierer, CEO of KTM. He further added, “Then design-wise and other components you will see a new generation naked bike”.
All the new bikes will be compliant with the EURO IV emission norms. Recently, KTM unveiled it's EURO 4 RC 390 at EICMA. More details about the next-gen models have not been disclosed by the company, but it’s pretty obvious that the bikes would be manufactured at Bajaj’s Chakan plant, just like KTM’s other models. As Bajaj has 48% stake in KTM, both the two-wheeler giants will invest in the new project as well as the production facility.
There are a lot of machines that falls in the range of 125cc-390cc sports bike segment and have reached another level in terms of popularity and performance. Competition is getting stronger day by day and KTM’s next-gen models will aim to maintain the position the manufacturer has maintained in its various segments. The market is already heated up with KTM’s Duke and RC series models, but the current lineup of company has limited options to choose from and with its new entries the company is more likely to beat the best in each displacement range.
By far KTM’s biggest displacement models are Duke 390 and RC 390 with specifications as follows:

- Max.Power: 43 bhp @ 9000 rpm
- Max. Torque: 35 Nm @ 7000 rpm
- GearBox: 6 Speed
