The plant will produce both KTM and CFMoto motorcycles going forward

  • The Hangzhou facility in China will be operational by June 2020
  • The new facility will go online in September 2020.
  • It has an annual production capacity of 50,000 units.
  • The KTM 790 Duke and 790 Adventure will be offered in India as CKD units.

KTM’s mid-displacement twins will soon be getting a new home. The Austrian brand will shift the 790 Duke and 790 Adventure’s production to its upcoming manufacturing facility in Hangzhou, China. This facility will produce both KTM and CFMoto motorcycles and will be operational by June 2020. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 50,000 units with the ability to bump numbers to 1 lakh units if need be.

KTM’s looking at manufacturing both the 790 twins and the 890 twins at the same facility. Thereafter, these bikes will be exported to markets like Europe, the US, Australia, and Asia as CBU’s (completely built units). Fortunately for us, regions like India and Latin America will receive the KTM 790 Duke and 790 Adventure as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) units. So, we could expect to see some competitive pricing.

Shifting half of its production to China will liberate the current Mattighofen facility in Austria which will be used to produce the company's flagship bikes in full swing - the 1290 Super Adventure, 1290 Super Duke GT and 1290 Super Duke R.

According to the Austrian brand, any more bikes branching out from the two mid-displacement platforms will be assembled in the same plant. Production for the 790 Duke, KTM 790 Adventure, 890 Duke and 890 Adventure will commence in September 2020.
