The upcoming maxi-style scooter is likely to be based on the SR 125 BS6
- Expect the upcoming scooter to get a similar design language as the SXR 160.
- It could be powered by the same 125cc fuel-injected motor as the Aprilia SR 125 BS6.
- The scooter is likely to cost around Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 over the SR 125.
Aprilia stood as a small ray of hope amidst an otherwise dull auto expo with the unveiling of the SXR 160. The Italian brand is likely to introduce a smaller-engined version too, which will presumably be called the SXR 125. It is likely to cost around Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 over the SR 125. It may be launched after the SXR 160 goes on sale in mid-2020.
Just like how the Aprilia SR 125 and the SR 150 share underpinnings and design language, the brand could replicate the same in the SXR range too. That means it is likely to get the same design as the SXR 160, complete with LED lighting system and a large LCD instrument console with optional smartphone connectivity.
It could be powered by the same 125cc fuel-injected engine as the SR 125. This BS6-compliant motor makes 10PS at 7700rpm and 9.7Nm at 6000rpm.
The underpinnings could be similar to the SR 125 BS6, with a telescopic front fork and a single rear shock absorber. However, instead of the 14-inch units on the SR 125, it could ride on 12-inch ones. To keep the costs competitive, Aprilia could also offer a front drum brake variant apart from the disc-brake-equipped model.
The upcoming SXR 125 will essentially carry the genes of the SXR 160 but in a more affordable package, without compromising on the style and features. Once launched, it will be a direct competitor to the Suzuki Burgman Street BS6, which is set to be launched soon.
