New Two-wheeler must come with 2 Helmets : Madras HC

Madras High Court has issued a order instructing the two-wheeler manufacturers to provide two helmets to the customers at the time of purchase of a new two-wheeler.

"Centre should ensure two-wheeler manufacturers provide helmets confirming to the Bureau of Indian Standards", said Justice N Kirubakaran emphasizing the relevant sections of Motor Vehicle Act. "If helmet is provided by the manufacturer, it will prevent the use of sub-standard headgears", he added.
The court said that Celebrities too could be connected to make the public aware of the mandatory helmet rule.

The court also suggested the helmet manufacturers to provide helmet lock as a component and not as an accessory that too without any additional cost. Besides this, the has court asked the police to reintroduce mandatory helmet rule and seize documents and vehicles of the violators.
